The Proposal

How opposite character dynamics make for the best friends in movies/animation?

It's no secret that characters in all media have different personalities: this, in turn, gives the relationship these characters form different dynamics. The personalities play off each other in such a way that their entire arc and story can change. Conversations have different depth and meaning- and become interesting, so long as there's something that sets them apart.

In this project, I'll be outlining how character dynamics of diametrically opposed characters make for the best, and often most humorous, of friends.

The three pieces of media I'll be taking from are: Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first two films are directed and produced by the same people, and it's co-stars are the same actors. These were picked specifically to show the dynamics with pieces as similar as possible.
For animation, the series Avatar: The Last Airbender was chosen for two characters and their unlikely friendship

Main Points:
What makes characters different
How does having characters be opposites play off the other?
How do Nick Frost and Simon Pegg approach similar characters (sotd) and how does having more opposite characters make the humor and dynamic different? (HF)
